It was my freshman year in college before I truly went “all the way.” There had been previous girlfriends, & various stages of undress but. . . In any event, early in my freshman year I began dating a girl whose family had a cabin in the woods near campus. We would take weekend trips up there from time to time. We had been dating for about a month and were loading up the car to leave after one of those weekends. As I recall (I’m doing my best not to embellish the memory), she had her back to me and was putting something in the back seat. I came up behind her and began kissing her neck. She turned around and we continued to kiss. My hands (as 17 year old hands do) wandered up to her breast, to the small of her back . . . At that point she pulled back and breathed the words “let’s go”. We walked hand in hand, without a word, back into the cabin, making our way to the bedroom. Our clothes were quickly removed – I honestly can’t remember who took whose off – I remember sitting her down on the corner of the bed. She asked if I had a condom which of course I did. She took it from me and placed it on me as I stood in front of her. She then laid back and I slowly, and clumsily I’m sure, entered her. It probably lasted a few minutes at best, but the memory and (more clearly) the memory of my feelings at the time last a life-time – How many love making sessions can you honestly say that about? The cabin continued to be our weekend retreat for the next month or two before we went our separate ways. She ended up dating and later marrying another college friend of mine and I found and later married my true college sweetheart – we both made the right choices in that regard. What a way to start college and to enjoy my first full experience – no drunken party that I couldn’t remember, just the two of us and a willingness to share a gift that will never fully fade.
