I’ve been checking out this site for awhile, and I’m not
trying to pass judgement on anyone. I just felt the need to
say something to the guys that (I’m hoping) are out there
that are virgins. And I won’t say “that are STILL virgins”
because I don’t think there’s a cutoff point at which you
have to add that distinction.
But anyway, through the months, I’ve noticed some entries
from college-aged guys that write, often with a tone of
embarassment or regret, that they haven’t had sex yet. They
seem to wonder if there’s something wrong with themselves,
etc. But as a 19 year old, female college student, I want to
say that there is NOTHING wrong with it, and you have no
reason to be ashamed. Let’s face it: it’s easy to have sex.
No matter what, I’m sure any guy could find some “slut” or
prostitute that would sleep with him. So even if you don’t
consider yourself to be a virgin “by choice,” in some ways
you are, and that’s something to be proud of.
Personally, I decided that I want to wait until I get
married to have sex. Sometimes I feel really good about my
decision, but other times I worry. I wonder if I will ever
find a “nice guy” who will actually want to date a girl
that won’t sleep with him, especially in a day and age where
so many other girls would. And I always hope that by some
miracle I can meet a guy one day who’s a virgin too. That’s
right – I would prefer dating an “inexperienced” guy over
some guy who had a long list of “conquests.” But in a day
and age when it seems most guys want to “lose it” as soon as
they can, I doubt that will ever happen. But I try to be
optimistic, and maybe it will. I know it’s not easy for guys
to wait – no one else seems to realize that having sex
doesn’t make you a man. But in the end, the person that
really counts will.
So to all you guys out there that are virgins, be proud,
not embarassed. Figure out what your virginity means to you:
it can be a special gift that you can give to the most
incredible young woman you’ll ever know, or it can be a
source of embarassment that you can lose to the first willing
girl you meet. It’s all up to you. And remember – I’m not
trying to judge anyone else – this is a great sight, and I
just wanted to express this idea.
